California Day 2

Sunday morning we woke up ready to go to our camp site. Well, Tyler was ready to go :)

Ty had booked a camp spot on the beach in Cardiff. Cutest little town, I loved it (I will be saying places are the cutest a lot because everywhere we went on our trip, I loved and would move there)! So we drove up to the window to check in around 11 and the worker told us that we could not check in a minute before 2 o'clock. So we were off to find other things for us to do.

Unfortunately, it was pretty chilly right there on the beach, so Ty couldn't get his surf on like we had planned for that day. We decided to instead go do some shopping around town. We were so happy when we found a Patagonia Surf Shop! We also happened upon a farmer's street market that was going on, which kept us entertained for some time.

Finally, 2 o'clock came around and we drove back to our spot to check in. The worker couldn't find our name listed for the spot we had reserved. When he did eventually find it, it was our name under a spot reserved for the next weekend. Woops! So he gave us a walk in spot for the night and each day after that we would have to come wait in line to reserve our spot again for the following night. We were planning on only camping for 3 nights and luckily we were able to keep our same spot the whole time!

After Tyler set up camp (I attempted to help but usually found myself just getting in the way) we were ready to start a fire and eat some grub. Whenever Tyler convinces me to go camping, he usually brings up something about chili dogs and that gets my attention. So, of course, we had to make chili dogs our first night and they were sooo good.

After dinner, we thought it would be fun to head into downtown San Diego and check out Little Italy. Maybe we were just in the wrong spot, but Little Italy did not have much going for it. There was nobody around and hardly anything open. We did happen upon the coolest dessert place ever, though! It was called Extraordinary Desserts and there were millions of different kinds of sweets. They had a restaurant feeling where you would be seated at a table and then you could order off of the menu what kind of dessert you wanted. Ty and I got ours to go and just picked our dessert at the front. They were amazing! Everything was so rich that next time we go we definitely would need to share something.

And that's the end of day 2!

California Day 1

This last week, Ty and I were in California!!! Woot Woot! It was so much fun, and since I love to tell all about everything I have decided to split this one long post into several and go day by day. So for the first day:

Saturday morning at 6 a.m. we departed on our long drive to San Diego. We were exhausted from the wedding the day before but were too excited to sleep any longer. I was going to drive the first half since I did not want to deal with the Cali traffic.

Now, I will be the first to admit that I am not the most skilled driver. I am a good driver but not a skilled driver (not sure if that makes sense...). Because of my lack of skill, you can see why I would be nervous when a ton of shrapnel was covering the road while I was driving. I avoided most of it, until I saw a ginormous piece of metal in the middle of the road and ran right over it. Yup. It made the loudest sound and scared me so bad. I just knew that I had ruined Tyler's car.

As I was sobbing and apologizing over and over again to Ty, he was completely calm and didn't even get mad or show that he was bugged about what I had just done. Side note: My husband is incredible. Who doesn't freak out when somebody ruins something nice of yours? Tyler doesn't. EVER! He is so good and patient and kind. Holy cow am I lucky to have a husband that doesn't freak out at me over ruining his car.

So now I'm still driving wondering what happened to the car, and I start to notice that the gas indicator shows that we are running out of gas and running out of it fast! We hurry to the nearest gas station (which luckily wasn't too far) to see if the gas tank was leaking. HALLELUJAH it was fine! But the bumper had been pulled out and some wiring unplugged which made it so the gas indicator and check engine light were on. Tyler was able to pop the bumper back in and we called our trusty car man, Mark (what would we do without him in our lives), and he told us what to do.

We made a stop at checker auto in Las Vegas to make sure that there was nothing else wrong with the car and they told us we would be fine to finish our trip out and then fix the rest of it when we got home. That was good news to hear! So we are glad to say that after that fiasco we got everywhere that we needed to be with no problems at all.

I refused to drive after that so Tyler took over and got us to San Diego in no time. Our hotel for the night was located right in Old Town San Diego. Talk about a hoppin' joint. There was so much going on and so many shops and people walking around. We ate at a fun little Mexican restaurant called Miguel's and then did some shopping. I got some awesome starfish for me and momma to decorate with, super excited!

So, that is all for day one! I'm glad that our car trauma didn't ruin the whole trip for us or even the rest of the day, we are so lucky!

D+J wedding

Dustin and joy are finally married and we're so happy for them! Here are some pics that I got of the wedding, it was absolutely gorgeous and the couple looked so happy! (the pictures will be out of order since blogger on my phone jumbles them and I don't know how to reorganize them!)

Jazz!

We got tickets to go to the jazz game last night!! Woot woot! It was a sold out game so we were so lucky when randy called us to see if we wanted tickets.

I was even going to call into the radio station yesterday morning to try and win tickets but I forgot the number... Haha so thank you randy for hooking us up!

The game was so intense and close but we won and (I think) this now means we are in the playoffs?! I don't follow basketball well enough but I think that's what everyone has been saying :) I'm still learning.

Coolest part of the night: Tyler managed to snag a free ball!

Cupcakes

I love my food network magazine subscription that the hubs got me. Especially when it gives me a nifty key with 50 different colors of frosting you can make with only the basic 4 color food coloring package.
I decided to make cupcakes just to try out the colors and I was so excited I tried 4 different colors!
Other things going on include:
Watching jake and Haley's cats
My cousin Dani's farewell, she is leaving on her mission to Taiwan and we will miss her!
Preparations for Dustin and joys wedding and then off to Cali!!

Easter

We had one of the best Easters this year. We started off our day at church with my momma, such wonderful talks were given. It was the perfect way to start Easter Sunday. I was reminded how grateful I am for the savior and for
His sacrifice that allows me to be with my family forever.

We then came home to a yummy breakfast and some fun game playing before we dashed off to Tyler's family picnic at the park.

The picnic was a blast! Such yummy food and tons of frisbee and football games. We were even lucky enough to have the Chrastil family stop by and hang out with us for a bit.

The big event at the park is the tossing of hard boiled eggs to the seagulls. Tyler's family does it every year, and though I still have my huge fear of birds, I managed to throw one egg very very far away from me to the birds:).

After many hours at the park and getting sunburned (it was such a beautiful day!) we headed home to have Tyler study some more for his series 65 test.

Well all that studying has paid off because... Dum da da dum!!!!! Tyler passed the test!!!!! I can not tell you how proud I am of him and i am so grateful that I'm married to such a hard working person.
I'm especially glad that he passed because now we don't have to go every night with him studying his hardest while I'm trying my best not to distract him :) Congrats baby!

Birthdays and Conference

This weekend was a special one, it being both Linda and Randy's birthdays! I got just a few pictures of Linda's party and her super cute garden cake that Amy got her. We are so grateful for Linda and Randy. They do so much for our family!
Sweet little Addyson playing with my phone :)
I also was able to plant this pride and joy here. I am so excited about it! This is my first pot of succulent plants and so I'm hoping that they will go well for me. The craziest thing about these plants is that I got them at Ikea! Who would have thought that Ikea has plants too, they just have everything!

Another thing that made the weekend special was it being General Conference weekend. Tyler and I are usually so busy on these weekends, but luckily for us we got to listen to most of the sessions. One of my favorite quotes from this conference was,

"Would you ask someone who is drowning, 'let me know how I can help you', or would you jump in there and save them?" (Elder Rasband)

Gosh was that a mind blower for me! I often find myself saying that exact thing to people, "Let me know if I can help you," and I need to stop doing that and just get in there and help! This is my new goal for now.
