Milo William's Birth Story

I cannot believe my baby boy is actually here! It seemed like an eternity towards the end of my pregnancy before he would ever come. But now that he is here, I cannot imagine my life without him. He has brought such joy to our little family!
I want to record here the story of Milo's birth before I forget too much of the details. It was one of the best days of my life, right up there with the day I married my best friend. Now our lives will never be the same :)
Things started back to the week of Thanksgiving. I had an appt. with my doctor, Dr. Voss, and it was the first time he was going to check me to see how dilated I was. At this point in time, I was feeling great! So great that sometimes I forgot I was even pregnant. I had never experienced the feelings of Braxton Hicks and didn't even know what a contraction would feel like. So I just figured that little Milo was happy as a clam being inside of me and was in no rush to come out. Well, surprise surprise! I was dilated to a 4 and 90% effaced! My first thought was, "Holy cow! What is even holding that baby inside of me!" But, I guess people can walk around for weeks dilated to a 4 and still have no baby. Still, we were a little worried to be hosting Thanksgiving at our house this year for fear that we might be having a baby that day. Thanksgiving came and went though, and still no baby.
Now at this point, knowing how close I was, I was ready for our baby to come out. I could not stand another minute of being pregnant and a lot of mornings started out with me bawling because I wasn't getting a single contraction. Tyler thought I was crazy for wishing pain on myself, but I always told him that pain means the baby is on the way!
The week before Milo was born it was freezing! But, I was so determined to go into labor that the cold weather did not stop me from going out walking all the time. Even with all that walking, still not a single contraction. I just knew that Milo was never going to come out. So I started to keep myself busy. Ty and I went to the movies one night to see Frozen, another night we went to the Grand America to look at their windows and ginormous gingerbread house, and (FINALLY) the day before Milo was born we were at This Is The Place Park for a market and went shopping at the mall and I started getting what  I thought were contractions!! Hallelujah the choirs of angels sang! Unfortunately the contractions were not very strong and I went to bed with no contractions at all and wondering if thats even what I had felt. Meanwhile, outside a huge storm was hitting us and there was snow covering the roads.
The morning of December 8 came and I got probably the best sleep of my whole pregnancy. I was still laying in bed when 9:45 came and I felt a very painful sensation going on in my stomach like somebody was stabbing me! Ouch! These HAD to be contractions and they were coming fast! I started to time them and, sure enough, they were every two minutes. Whatever happened to what I was told, that contractions will come every 15 minutes to 10 minutes to 5 minutes to 2 minutes? I did not experience that. I went from zero pain to excruciating "Now I know why people die in labor" pain! I still didn't think there was any way I could be going into labor, though.
So I showered and got all ready for my day, meanwhile hunching over every time a contraction came. I finally told Tyler that we are going to the hospital at 12 if I still felt this kind of pain. We were out the door at 11:45 :) Luckily most of the snow had melted that morning from the storm the day before so we didn't have to worry about our little Mazda making it up the hill to LDS Hospital. What we did have to worry about was where to go once we got to the hospital since neither of us had ever been there before. Whoops for not taking any birthing classes :s
We drove to the emergency door and I waited in the car while Ty went in and asked if this is where we were supposed to be. The receptionist came out looking very concerned at me and rushed me inside. They put me in a wheelchair and then started checking me in while Tyler parked the car on the street. Then off we went to the delivery room. At this point, I was still getting contractions every two minutes but I thought for sure that they were going to send us back home saying that I wasn't ready for delivery yet.
The nurse came in and checked me and lo and behold I was dilated to a 6 now! She had to tell us about 3 times that we were going to stay and have a baby that day. We could not believe it! Ty started calling everyone in our families to get them ready for Milo to make an appearance.
The nurses got me all ready to go and asked if I would like to have an epidural. In my mind I thought, "Hell yes I do!" but what came out was, "Yes, please. I don't do well with pain :)" The anesthesiologist came in soon after that and did a very nice job at giving me my epidural even though I was completely terrified of getting it. What a blessing it was though! I did not feel a single thing waist down and asked the nurse if I was still getting contractions (I was still worried that they might send me home).
Now it was 1:00 and the nurse told me that I had to keep the baby in until 5:00 so that I could get both bags of antibiotics in my system. So Ty and I got comfortable and both took a little nap. Around 4:00 the nurse came back in with the doctor. Unfortunately, Dr. Voss was out of town so he would not be able to deliver my baby. This doctor was getting off his shift at 5:00, so when he checked me and saw that I was dilated to a 7 and fully effaced, he decided that he would break my water and we were going to have this baby before 5:00. WHAT?! I had heard that pushing a baby out could take hours and I had to get mine out in half an hour?!
Well, 20 minutes later, at 4:59:56 Milo was born and he was the most beautiful thing I ever did see. He let out two little cries and the minute they handed him to me he calmed right down. He was the sweetest baby and I just burst into tears, I was so happy that he was here and he was safe! He weighed 7 pounds and 4 ounces and was absolutely perfect. Tyler and I were smitten with him immediately and could not take our eyes off of him.
After he got all cleaned up, we got taken to our recovery room and got to spend our first time together as a family of 3. Of course, we had to call our moms and tell them to hurry down to meet their new grandson and everybody else in the family came down too. Our room was packed! We had Linda, Kip, Lyle, Claudia, Christy, Dustin, Joy, Larry, Julie, David, Mckenzie, and Cayleen. Then more guests came later: Lora, Dani, Lexi, Hillary, Jesse, Owen, and Elle. Everybody was so excited to meet our little Milo, he is such a loved little boy.

Our last date night together with just the two of us.
Just checked into the hospital and found out we were having the baby that day!

 He's here!

First time dad got to hold his son.
David and Mckenzie were one of the first visitors to meet Milo.

Looking so peaceful laying on mom's shoulder
My family has been saying that the storm brought Milo to us that day. I've heard old wives tales of that being true but, after getting to know Milo this past week, I think that my sweet little boy heard his momma's prayers and knew that I couldn't wait another minute. He also knew that Sunday was the perfect day because I was home with Tyler and not at work going into labor :) We are so blessed that this little angel chose us to be his parents and we are excited for this new adventure that we are embarking on.

Holly and Rosemary's Shower for Milo

Holly Hyde and Rosemary Mead threw Milo and I the absolute cutest shower the other weekend. It was delicious food and fun company!

They had a theme of bow ties and I think everyone caught on to it because all of those we got for Milo will make him look so dapper :) I LOVE these onesies that Holly made for Milo.

Thank you Holly and Rosemary so much for putting this together for us!!! We are so grateful for them and everyone who came to support us. This was our last shower before Milo gets here and we feel so blessed by everyone who has been there to help us out at being first parents. We are truly lucky!

Happy Thanksgiving!

This year we took on the endeavor of hosting thanksgiving at our house! We invited both sides of our families over and that made it so much fun to make a big party out of it. We loved having both of our families together and not having to split it this year!

Everyone thought we were crazy to host thanksgiving when my due date is just two weeks away but little did you all know that my husband is amazing and pretty much did everything. He took care of the house, cleaned it spotless, cooked the turkey and the stuffing, got all the food assignments out, and then cleaned up after the party! I basically just sat back and watched :) I am one lucky gal!
Ty was really stressed about cooking his first turkey, but he did an amazing job! Best turkey I ever had! And we are so lucky to have such talented family who all made delicious food to bring over. It was such a yummy dinner, milo was spoiled right along with me.
After dinner we had some holiday entertainment given by all the Higginson brothers and their accordions. It was like a circus putting all of them together to get a picture, but they sure look good!
Then we played some games and I went with some of the girls in my family to do some early Black Friday shopping. Judge all you want but what better way to bond with my family than pushing through crowds to get the best deals ;) just kidding, but honestly it really was fun for us to do a little shopping!
That brought the close to our thanksgiving but I would like to finish here by saying a few things that I am grateful for. When I think about what im grateful for it's always the people in my life that come to mind first. I know it's because I am so blessed with such amazing family and friends. I love the family that I was born and raised in and I'm lucky to have such an amazing second family that I married into! Both families have done so much for us and we are truly lucky.
I'm also so grateful for my nanny family that has done so much for me and been so supportive of our little guy coming and letting me bring him to work with me.
I'm grateful for the good friends that Tyler and I have and I'm so happy that all of our families are growing together and can't wait for our kids to be friends too.
And finally I'm grateful for my two boys. Even though milo isn't here yet, I know that he will be such a special boy to me and will change my life for the better. And I can't wait to see Tyler, who has been the best husband for me, be the best dad for milo. Milo- we can't wait for you to get here so feel free to get here anytime! We love you!

Milo's Nursery

Milo's nursery is finally done! We have been waiting for months for our rocking chair, so when it finally got here we were able to take pictures. Tyler has put his heart and soul into this room. He painted the walls, did the bead board around the bottom of the walls, put together all the furniture, and organized all of our baby stuff. It is the best looking room in our house and I can't wait to bring baby boy home to it.
The pictures are turning out a little fuzzy for some reason so hopefully you all get the gist of it!

As far as Milo goes, we are 2.5 weeks away from our due date! It does not seem real and he seems super comfortable hanging out inside of me right now so I don't expect him to come any time soon, but we shall see!
He seems to stay in the same position all the time. Head down, butt sticking out to my left and knees sticking out to my right. He loves getting his little feet massaged by Tyler. He will stick them out and Ty will rub them and he is perfectly content staying there for awhile. It's the cutest thing.
The last thing on our list is to pack our hospital bags and then we will just be waiting for our little guy to decide he wants to come! We can't wait!

Happy 3 Years!

Our anniversary was a little different this year. We typically find ourselves staying up in a hotel in Park City around this time, but money and school would not permit that for us! We were both fine with this because we were able to do lots of fun things right at home. Ty was having a late meeting for school on the actual day of our anniversary so the Saturday before we headed up to Station Park in Farmington. We did a little shopping, ate dinner at Johnny Rockets, and went and saw the movie Gravity. Such a great time! But we couldn't end our festivities there, we did some more celebrating the day after our anniversary! We carved pumpkins, made the first substantial dinner we have had since I got pregnant (and it turned out to be delicious!), and played some Sorry! I'd say we did pretty good for a stay at home anniversary celebration :)

As I look back on this past year of marriage that I have had with Tyler, we have come upon two firsts in our lives together. We bought our first house and got pregnant with our first child. Those are HUGE life changing events and we got them both in one year! We have definitely been blessed and I am so lucky to experience these life changing events with Ty. I would not pick anyone else!
I often think about how Tyler must feel about this past year being married to me and I almost feel bad for the poor guy. With a new house comes lots of responsibility and Tyler has taken on mostly all of it. Not only has he had to do everything for our house but also be a support to his crazy pregnant wife. Then his crazy pregnant wife gets an idea to start a small side business and he has to help her out with all of that all the time! I just don't know how he has kept his head above water, but I hope that he knows how grateful I really am for him and all that he does for me. He has taught me so much this year and my love and admiration for him has only grown.
I can't wait for all that will come in our lives during this next year of marriage!

Baby Shower Given by Mckenzie

My awesome sister in law, Mckenzie, offered to throw me my second baby shower for Milo and it was such a cute shower! She had baby boy blue everywhere and lots of fun games for everyone to play. All of these pictures are from my mom who took random shots of almost everyone who was there.

Elle was my little helper with opening the presents. I could not have done it without her!

I felt so blessed by everyone that came and we got tons of things that we needed for Milo. After this shower I felt like we were pretty much set! I'm so grateful for all of my close family and friends who were able to make it to the shower and support our little family! And I have the best sister in law to throw this shower for me.

October Happenings

Get ready for picture overload! We have been doing a lot this month! First off, we got to go to a haunted corn maze with meg and Kevin. I was doing everything I could to keep myself from freaking out because I didn't want to scare the baby (is that weird that I thought I needed to do that?). I always love a good corn maze around Halloween!

Ty sent me this picture of him rushing the field at a U football game. Sounds like it was an exciting game though I'm just glad he didn't break something in the rush!
We also got some free tickets to a jazz game and turned it into a little date night with jake and Haley. We ended the night by racing to cold stone before it closed, us pregnant ladies can be a little crazy!

One of my most favorite traditions is taking my kids to This is the Place park for their trick or treating event. Elle was rapunzel and Owen was sonic. I thought their costumes were awesome!
We were lucky enough to have Julie, Holly, Poppy, Will, Ben, and Lukey come with us this year. It is always an adventure with this crew!
My cousin Dani returned from her mission in Taiwan! So fun to have her home.
We went to the pumpkin patch and came out with a hay bale and millions of pumpkins even though we always say we won't. Hubby looks hot, I look ginormous :)

Another tradition Ty and I have around this time of year is taking Owen and Elle up millcreek canyon to look at the leaves and go on a little hike. This was our best year yet! The kids loved the hike, we didn't have to carry anyone, and they loved looking at all the pretty fall colors. We can't wait to take milo to do all this fun stuff.
We also took a little trip up to Idaho to visit Ty's grandparents. Ty was surprised with a gift from grandpa, his very own accordion! It is one of the many that grandpa has played throughout his life.
Well I am glad I have caught everything up so far, though October isn't over yet and we have a lot more things coming up! I will try and stay on top of it all.

Baby Shower Given by Linda

This last Saturday Linda threw a shower for me and baby Milo! It was too much fun and I am so grateful for her and all of her hard work in putting it together. She made it all into a fall theme and we played a game where we found out she had 107 pumpkins in her house! Every inch was covered and it made it so festive.

This is a picture of some of the lovely ladies who came and supported me. We are missing a few here, but I am so lucky to have all of them in my life and know that Milo will be a much loved little guy!
Just a little snippet of Linda's awesome decorations. These onesies spelling out MILO were my favorite.
Aunt Julie and Linda made this darling Halloween Diaper cake that I LOVE so much and will probably never take apart :) It is the cutest diaper cake I have ever seen!

Linda put so much work and time into this shower and I am the luckiest to have her as a mother in law.
This shower has made me so much more excited for Milo to get here since we are getting all of these wonderful things for him. We only have 9.5 more weeks to go!!! I can hardly wait!
